About The Project

1 Bite 7 Days is a documentary and tasting experience based on a Japanese proverb that says for every new food we eat, we gain seven days of life.

The project kicks off this summer at the Renegade Craft Fair in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where guests will be offered 1 of 3 unusual dishes at a free tasting booth. Once guests have tasted a dish, and “earned” their 7 days, they’ll be able to enter a private space, akin to a photo booth, where they can share how they’ll use this new free time.

The documentary will be a portrait of the experiences of guests tasting and sharing how they’d like to spend their time. The final video will piece together all the experiences and shared moments from a few festivals in an attempt to explore what we eat and why; what it means to be an adventurous eater; how we think about the value of food; our fantasies for how we would like to spend our time; the unifying effects of eating; food history; and the birth, meaning, and value of proverbs.

The project is also very simply an opportunity for an unexpected kind of fun and a chance to think about ourselves, and our habits, likes, and dislikes.
