Lots of people ask me what the heck is pictured in the banner. I love how varied the reactions are: Some people are disgusted. Most are just curious. I think it looks dreamy!
It’s Tangyuan, a Chinese glutinous rice dumpling. The name has a wonderful history mixed with paranoid rulers and moon phases. They’re usually part of a sweet dessert soup and can be filled with peanuts, red bean paste, and other sweet goodness.
These, according to the photographer are pumpkin tangyuan (she uses the spelling tong yuen), but they taste like mild peanut butter. Yum!

Tangyuan is one of my favorite desserts (I like the black sesame-filled ones the most)! Good choice.
